Stop waiting for normal… 4 Martial Arts keys to these “Times”…

Since the coronavirus world began in March (or earlier depending on how we measure it) I have heard from a lot of people talking with a similar theme…

“When’s it going to be over?”

Whether that’s school or work or just going to the movies (one of my favorites) I think we all want things to return to normal. Most things will return to normal someday but it’s going to be a wait… I can promise you 2020 will not be normal…

So the real answer is to KEEP MOVING FORWARD :) Keep GROWING!

Hey, I don’t like that answer because I really want to be able to travel, go out to eat (in a normal way) and watch the next James Bond movie. The bigger danger right now is to shut down PROGRESS. I am not making a political statement at all, what I am saying is for us individually (and for parents making strong decisions for their kids) we need to find alternate ways to:

  • PLAY – we (adults and kids) know from psychology research that we need this to keep stress levels down (related to general health)
  • LEARN – If we aren’t learning, our mind is going to stop working properly. You’re not using all of it! One of the most important things you can do for mental health and to increase awareness, brain capabilities and mental clarity is to be learning something all the time.
  • EXERCISE – the stay-at-home orders and the need for people to stay socially distant (in addition to gym closures) has created a massive reduction in the amount of exercise people are doing. This is seriously detrimental to mental and physical health. You can read a longer article about this by clicking HERE but you simply can’t stop exercising.
  • GROW – We as individuals need to feel like we’re growing. It’s said you either GROW or DECAY… All three things above do that but What are your goals for the next 3 months? If the answer is “survive till it’s over”, then what if it’s not over for a year? Is that worth sacrificing a year of growth (or even 3 months) when the alternative is decay?

These are just some thoughts for now – certainly, at KarateBuilt YOU ARE DOING EVERYTHING in the 4 keys above when you’re doing our classes at KarateBuilt Martial Arts, and I wanted to make sure you use that training to take a look at the other parts of your life (and for your child it’s even more important) and all of these four key areas…

Sincerely,

Karate
