How to make fitness a life long, positive part of yours and your child’s life – Part 2

How to make fitness a life long, positive part of yours and your child’s life – Part 2!

The next part of the fitness process is making it interesting and fun. So how do these two things relate? The main thing is that these two things are essential in creating enough motivation to keep up with a fitness activity…

Fun isn’t really just “playing” – if that were the case then games would have no rules! We “like” rules… it’s what makes games fun because there is structure involved and – ask yourself what would happen if there was just total chaos in a basketball game… if the player could just tackle the guy with the ball… no fun right?

Progress is what makes activities interesting. If you went to school and didn’t feel you were learning, if you didn’t learn your ABC’s you wouldn’t be very motivated right? Similarly if you do a fitness program and you don’t get stronger or don’t lose weight or don’t get better at hitting the golf ball down the fairway (I’m really bad at that by the way) – you wont find it interesting or fun… there’s no progress!

So, it’s CRITICAL to do activities that embody both fun and progress!

We do this in many ways at KarateBuilt Martial Arts!

Martial Arts in general is a structured activity (we are learning “military” or “fighting” arts and that means we need to be much more safe than any other activity because we are more powerful… AND we are constantly growing and seeing progress.

One way this happens is the belt system. The belt system is setup so every couple months a student demonstrates what they know – has a goal to perform at an improved level – and advanced to a higher “rank”. While our students goal is truthfully Black Belt, these intermediate ranks (we call them color belts) before Black Belt are designed to keep students focused on making progress and visually demonstrating their movement forward.

You will always be having fun and making progress at KarateBuilt Martial Arts!

Sincerely,

Karate
