“I Was Rude And Disrespectful…”

Listen to this unedited Karate Black Belt Essay from Mr. Philip Hordesky

I started karate two years ago when I wasn’t healthy and I was rude and disrespectful.  But since joining karate I have become a healthy teen and a respectful person.  Karate taught me how to be a leader and how to be a better person.  Karate taught me how to defend myself in dangerous situations.  It also taught me that I need a vision to see where I’m headed in life.  Karate is one of the best things that has ever happened to me.

What Karate means to me is that it gives me strength, self-confidence, a can do attitude, and a focus on where I’m going  life and where I am in life.  Someone once told me that there are two types of martial-artists.  There is someone who does Tae Kwon Do and someone who lives Tae Kwon Do.  What this says that there are people who go to Tae Kwon Do and learn forms and weapons then just go home and be the same person that they were before karate.  Although, the person that lives Tae Kwon Do goes to karate and learns forms and weapons just like the other guy, but he takes the life skill and what it means and puts it to use at home, on the street, or anywhere he can show or use it.  I am a person that lives Tae Kwon Do because I a a better person than when I started Tae Kwon Do.

Karate is great for me because it shows me how to have a vision, self-confidence, honesty, and respect.  I am thankful for all the help along the way I have rceived and I hope to continue being a martial-artist in the future years.

Thanks Mr. Hordesky! As you said, it’s not just about being a Black Belt the day you become one, but in all the FUTURE YEARS as well!

Sincerely,

Karate
