19th Anniversary of the Yarnell Hill Fire
It’s the 19th Anniversary of the fire… a moment to remember…
Every year I post about this – On June 30, 2013, 19 members of the group were killed fighting the Yarnell Hill Fire.
The Yarnell Hill Fire was a wildfire near Yarnell, Arizona, ignited by lightning on June 28, 2013. On June 30, it overran and killed 19 City of Prescott firefighters, members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots. It was the deadliest U.S. wildfire since the 1991 East Bay Hills fire, which killed 25 people, and the deadliest wildland fire for U.S. firefighters since the 1933 Griffith Park Fire, which killed 29. It was also the most fatal incident of any kind involving U.S. firefighters since the September 11 attacks, which killed 343. It is the sixth-deadliest American firefighter disaster overall and the deadliest wildfire ever in Arizona.
President Joe Biden (when he was Vice President) attended the memorial and stated, “All men are created equal. But then, a few became firefighters.”
I love that quote…
I talk a lot in martial arts and in this blog about confidence – and how confident people are more successful, happier, and have better results in their life. There is also the group of heroes to take a moment to think about who’s life personally didn’t end the way they or their families would have liked but for the world, their confidence saved people…
