When Dad Steps Onto the Mat

Bryan McCormick trains alongside his three sons, showing the power of leading by example.

Martial arts is powerful for kids. It is even more powerful when the family trains together.

Bryan McCormick is 51 years old, a purple belt, and trains at KarateBuilt with his three sons: Kaden, Miles, and Mason. Kaden is 13 and a purple belt. Miles is 12 and a blue belt. Mason is 10 and also a purple belt. That means this isn’t just one child taking a class. It’s a family building discipline, confidence, fitness, and shared memories together.

For many parents, it’s easy to become the driver, the scheduler, and the person sitting on the side watching. Bryan chose something different. He stepped onto the mat with his sons.

When a parent trains with their kids, the lesson changes. The kids see effort and humility. They see Dad working, learning, improving, and being coached too. This sends a stronger message than another lecture about commitment ever could. Kids respond better to what we model than what we announce from the front seat of the car.

Training together also gives families a common language. They understand the goals, the challenges, the belt tests, the wins, and the hard classes. They’re not just watching each other grow; they are growing together.

Bryan, Miles, Kaden, and Mason show one of the best parts of KarateBuilt: martial arts can become more than an activity. It can become something a family shares, builds around, and carries into the rest of life.

The McCormicks

Bryan McCormick:

“Absolutely loves Karate Built. My three boys and I come twice a week, started this a year ago, and it’s the thing they look forward to. They think it’s cool that Dad’s going. I think it’s cool that they’re all going, and it’s actually something they look forward to do. They get exercise, they get life skills, they’re getting confidence, they’re getting things that we don’t normally think of as parents, and it’s universal. And then they talk to their friends about it. It’s just a really cool experience and I recommend it for anybody.”

If you’re looking for the same growth for your child, take the next step today.
