More Than Kicks and Belts
Kingsley and Kalista’s stories show how martial arts helps kids grow stronger from the inside out.
Every parent wants the same thing: a child who is stronger on the inside, not just busier on the outside. That’s why these two stories matter.
In the videos below, you will hear from two KarateBuilt families at very different points in the martial arts journey. Stephanie Rollin shares why she brought her 10-year-old son, Kingsley, to KarateBuilt. Kingsley is a purple belt, and like many kids, he came in with energy, interest, and the need for the right structure. His story is about learning respect, appreciation for others, and better ways to handle challenges at school and at home.
You will also hear from Kristen Brooks and her daughter, Kalista. Kalista is 10 years old and has already earned her 2nd-degree Black Belt. That’s not a small accomplishment. Her mom talks about the confidence, strength, and genuine love Kalista has developed through training. Then Kalista makes the point even simpler: she loves it.
This is the real value of martial arts when it’s taught correctly. The kicks, forms, sparring, and belts are important, but they aren’t the whole story. The real work is helping kids become more confident, more respectful, more focused, and more resilient.
These short videos show what parents often notice first: their child starts standing taller, and then they start acting stronger. That’s the part we care about most.
Kingsley Rollin
Stephanie Rollin:
“Hello. I’ve brought my son to KarateBuilt, because he has a love and a passion for karate, and I noticed that and I was trying to figure out a different technique to use to be able to work with at school, and to be able to also work with at home. And so, I have taken him here to allow somebody else other than myself to show him respect and appreciation for other people around. I really appreciate that they have multiple settings and steps that deal with being able to help him with his coping. And that is the main reason why I have brought him here and I would like to continue to keep him here.”
Kalista Brooks
Kristen Brooks:
“Well, we really love it here at ATA Martial Arts. Callie has gotten more confident, she’s gotten stronger, and she really, really loves doing it.”
Kalista:
“Yes, I do.”
