“…more confident with things I do at school, at home, and everywhere…”

OK, this Karate Black Belt Essay I promise is unedited! (so I apologize for some grammar errors but he’s only 9…) from Mr. Daniel Volkmann

I have been learning Taekwondo for 3 years and have worked my way up yo second degree black belt.  I usually go to two classes a week ace practiced you life skills at school and at home.  I like going to tournaments and I have really liked being on the demo team.  I like when we do in-class sparring and ground fighting even though I don’t always win [in sparring].  I have become a stronger person, physically and mentally, by practicing Taekwondo.  I want to continue karate because it is fun and it makes me more confident with things I do at school, at home, and everywhere.  I also have learned to be a better communicator and practice the life skills of honesty, vision, discipline, respect, and self-esteem.  I want to continue participating in tournaments and my ultimate goal is to become a master.  I like being a 2nd degree because I get to do cool forms, weapons, and other cool stuff.  It will be fun going on until master because it will be an adventure.!

Thanks Mr. Volkmann!

You know, what Mr. Volkmann is experiencing is exactly what we talk about when a student walks in our school on the first day but our challenge is explaining to a student or their parent (for a child student) that if they invest the 3 to 4 years of training, how incredible the benefits will be.

How much is being confident worth?

How much is self-discipline worth?

How much is physical fitness and health worth?

The irony is that while almost everyone would agree that these life skills are priceless, when confronted in the moment with the effort needed to develop these skills, most people don’t do it. They give up way too early and therefore live a life without…

That’s why we do what we do at KarateBuilt Martial Arts!

Sincerely,

Karate
