…Started at a Birthday Party Now He’s a Black Belt!

Mr. Cole Barber wants to be a Black Belt! Here is his Karate Black Belt Essay

Two years ago, I went to a birthday party at ATA.  I went in, not overly excited, and went out interested and curious about what I could accomplish by doing Taekwondo.  I had no idea, however, that one day; I would be testing for my black belt.  Soon after this party, I decided to give Taekwondo a try.  I started off not enjoying it too much, but soon after, I gradually started to like it, and eventually, I looked forward to going.  Doing Taekwondo has made me a stronger person, physically and mentally.  Taekwondo has taught me so much about self-defense and has exercised my body to the fullest.  Along with improving my physical abilities, Taekwondo has taught me about discipline, respect, communication, self-esteem, vision, and honesty.  It has taught me to set goals and keep trying at things you don’t succeed at the first time.  Whenever I would walk in to class, I would look at my Black Belt hanging under the “Future Black Belts” sign and I would remind myself that each day I was getting it.  I’ve looked at it for two years now, and finally, after all this time; I’m ready to receive what I’ve been working for.  This is the first major milestone in my Taekwondo “career,” and it’s just the beginning.  I plan to continue with it for as long as I can, and I would eventually like to become an instructor.  ATA is a great program, and deciding to join was one of the best decisions I’ve made.  I can’t imagine where I would be without it.  Physically and mentally, I am finally ready to be a Black Belt.
